Since 1994 we’ve been lucky enough to have three good friends come to work every harvest with us. They take the month off from their “real jobs” as flight attendants and slog through the cold, long nights of harvest. In 2002, those friends wanted to make a wine of their own.
This project was started without a name using grapes from the esteemed Klipsun Vineyard in the Red Mountain AVA in Washington. With their high spirits and witty quips – always keeping us laughing – the trio quickly was dubbed the “Three Clowns”. The name was temporary at first, but quickly stuck the more they were around. Now, the grapes are sourced from Eastern Washington, sometimes acquired from Richland, Walla Walla, or Horse Heaven Hills. The Clowns are fortunate to know the people who grow the grapes, allowing them to make sure the fruit is exactly what they are looking for.
The name always has, and will, inspire smiles and laughter. Folks always wonder which one of the labeled Clowns they each are. While that may be a secret, it’s no secret that The Clowns are grateful for your support.
