Share Your Love Story #4

February 11, 2017 by · Leave a Comment

The other day we launched what’s turning into a really fun and heart-warming project. In honor of Valentine’s Day, we asked people to send us their love story. We’ve been getting some really lovely stories and we’re sharing some of them with you here.

Then, on Valentine’s Day we’re going to do a random drawing of all of the submissions and the winner will get our special Sweetheart Package – dinner for two at their favorite restaurant (we’ll buy a $100 gift card for them) and a $50 gift card to shop at R. Stuart & Co. (online or in our Wine Bar). Wouldn’t this be the ideal time for some Love, Oregon wine? Perfect for the occasion.

I met the man I call my husband, lover, father of my two children and parter in crime almost exactly 6 years ago today…online! Ya I said it, online. It seemed scary back then but now it’s just a part of us.

After visiting Oregon a hand full of times, I just couldn’t imagine living anywhere else- or drinking any other Pinot Noir- so I left my job in CA and decide to peruse a career in the Oregon wine industry. And I’m so thankful I did or I would have never met the man I love today. Moving and leaving everything and everyone I ever knew was hard- it’s like starting all over at a new high school in the middle of your senior year. Lucky for me, Oregonians are awesome and some of the nicest and most welcoming people you will ever meet.

I had finally settled into Oregon life when the dreaded Valentine’s Day weekend arrived. Dhun da dhnnn! When your single, you know what this means. It’s like the worst day ever. Match.com had a join free weekend. I half started it as a joke trying to laugh off my miserable single sorrow. I don’t put much stock in it but I continued- from Firemen to Chefs and every clown in between. They were all decent but just not my type. But there was this one – a farmer. We emailed back a forth for a moth or so and decided to meet almost a whole month later.
We met at the old Split Wine Bar in Bridgeport and then had dinner at the Macaroni Grill. It was like we had known each other for months. I didn’t want the night to end. We sang Saturday night fever over the phone to each other on the ride home. In the next weeks I invited him to one of my dear friends a colleague home for a wine dinner, Gabrielle and CK of Keeler Estates. That night Gabby stated to the whole table of 20 guests or so that we would get married, she could just see it. Well, Gabby was right- we got hitched only 8 months later and the best days of my life have been every day since.
My farmer proposed 3,000 feet up in a friend’s plane. I remember being so scared to get into that thing. It was another year of harvest at the winery and I had been working a ton- you pretty much eat, sleep and you know what on the crush pad. I kept inviting him to see what I do. He was so passionate about his farming and I had gone to ride along with him in his tractor many times but I felt like he just didn’t want to come see what I did- what I am passionate about.  On the morning of November 21st, I got totally tricked into this plane ride over Salem to see his family farm. This was a opportunity offered to him by a family friend. We flew out of the Salem airport and out to Silverton. It was a beautiful morning and I had no idea what was in store. As we flew over the farm, there in huge round up sprayed out grass letters, “Shannon will you marry me?” I was stunned I never even actually said YES. I just threw my arms around him and kissed him. There was a ring too! And the plane, turned out was named Romeo.

Will You Marry Me?

Ring

We married the following march, had our first child two years later, followed quickly by our son. We have opened 3 businesses together and my heart beams with pride everyday that I wake up next to him and think- he chose me? Crazy guy.

Oh and P.S. The next day, he came to the winery a learned about making wine. He comes and picks, crushes and blends wine with me every year now.
