Share Your Love Story #9

February 16, 2017 by · Leave a Comment

The other day we launched what’s turning into a really fun and heart-warming project. In honor of Valentine’s Day, we asked people to send us their love story. We’ve been getting some really lovely stories and we’re sharing some of them with you here.

Then, on Valentine’s Day we’re going to do a random drawing of all of the submissions and the winner will get our special Sweetheart Package – dinner for two at their favorite restaurant (we’ll buy a $100 gift card for them) and a $50 gift card to shop at R. Stuart & Co. (online or in our Wine Bar). Wouldn’t this be the ideal time for some Love, Oregon wine? Perfect for the occasion.

It was love at first sight…

The High Museum of Art in Atlanta GA held it’s annual and much celebrated wine auction in April 2006 at Atlantic Station.  The theme that year, “Toast a New High. Ooh, la, la!”

It just so happened that a Co-Chair of the event worked with me though I in New York.  Together we convinced our employer to be a lead sponsor.  As these things go this also meant I’d need to “win” one of the main auction items as a kind of matching gift.  So I invited my girlfriend to accompany me to Atlanta for a few days of work but mostly fun, seemed like an easy enough ploy.

We attended the “Ooh, la, la” charity event, were marveled by the splendor of food and wine and bedazzled by the who’s who of the attendee list.  As the event unfolded and we were finally seated at our table the charity auction did start.  Hastily, I flipped through the auction book to find a suitable item to “win”.  It was only then that it became apparent that any “win” was going to cause my wallet to take it on the proverbial chin.  Glancing at the description for lucky #7 it said something about Oregon and pinot noir so leaning to my date I asked if she’d be willing to go to the “coast”.  She responded affirmatively with an inquisitive look upon which I took action in my role as a sponsor taking aim at an early auction “win”.  I raised the paddle up high, perhaps strategically a tad too quick, entering the bidding process that was repeated and repeated until I finally heard the definitive; knock, knock, knock!  We were going to Oregon!

To the International Pinot Noir Celebration we went later that year, guests of Maria and Rob Stuart and R. Stuart Wines.  Two of the loveliest people we still find to be dear.  They entertained us and taught us to love their wine and in such enchanting vineyard countryside we pretty much decided it was time to be formally entwined.

We were engaged that Christmas and married the next summer.  The wine that we toasted at our nuptials was never in doubt.  It could only be R. Stuart’s Big Fire Rose d’Or.
